5-DAY PROJECT MANAGEMENT TRAINING FOR STAFF OF THE SECOND GHANA PRODUCTIVE SAFETY NET PROJECT

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) in collaboration with the Institute of Local Government Studies (ILGS) is organising a 5 Day Project Management Training for Staff of the Second Ghana Productive Safety Net Project (GPSNP) from 7th to 11th April, 2024 at the Accra Campus of the Institute.

The 2023 capacity building plan of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) had identified a number of training needs for staff and include training in projects management, for which the Institute of Local Government Studies (ILGS) was selected to design and deliver the tailored training programme on projects management for the target groups. In view of the important roles given to the MoGCSP under GPSNP2, it was pertinent that the project staff and management alike, exhibit a high level of competence and professionalism in the performance of their stated mandates.

Therefore, the projects management course has been designed to strengthen institutional capacity for a more effective and efficient implementation of the GPSNP2 as well as equip key staff with competences to perform their functions in an informed manner. The expected participants include directors, project managers, project management specialists and practitioners, financial controllers, and key project officers.

Also, the 5-Day customized certificate course is intended to help participants deepen their understanding of managing World Bank financed and other development partner supported projects as well as provide opportunities for project staff to analyse, reflect and propose innovative strategies to address emerging challenges in the implementation of GPSNP2.

Therefore, the training will create an urgency for national project staff to (1) provide leadership in the delivery of the envisaged project outputs and outcomes; (2) to facilitate responsive, effective and efficient planning, execution and management of the project; (3) to adhere to timelines, cost controls and quality standards; and (4) deliver responsive project governance and ultimately strengthen the country’s safety net systems and improve the productivity of the poor and vulnerable including women and persons living with various forms of disabilities.

The modules have been selected based on a rapid training needs assessment which identified the core competences necessary for effective implementation of GPSNP2. Some of the modules include an Overview of Programme and Leadership in Action (Change Making) Projects; Introduction to Projects Management; Project Management Life Cycle; Project Planning and Control; Projects Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning, amongst others.

A participant that successfully attends all sessions during the course and participates actively shall receive an Advanced Certificate in Project Management and Control from the Institute of Local Government Studies.
