Welcome to the Dean of Students Office

Dr. Stephen Omari is an Environmental Scientist with special interests in climate change and health, water quality, and environmental assessment, and has many years of experience as a lecturer in the field of environmental science. As a consultant and resource person, he has been involved in a number of national and international projects and programmes.  He served as a discussant at the National Census Policy Dialogue organised by the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC); a Reference Group Member for the Research on Fiscal Decentralisation for Local Service Delivery of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene by WaterAid/Beek Consult; and a Committee Member for the development and review of Social Risk Management (SRM) Modules by the World Bank/KNUST-TRECK/GIMPA. He was also involved in the Adaptation at Scale in Semi-arid Regions (ASSAR) by IDRC and DFID.

As an academician, he has taught courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels and supervised students’ project works and thesis for more than a decade. He has worked with the Presbyterian University, Ghana, and the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) on a full-time and part-time basis. He was an Acting Dean of the Faculty of Development Studies and the Head of the Department of Environmental and Natural Resources Management of the Presbyterian University, Ghana. He is currently a Senior Lecturer and the Dean of Studies at the Institute of Local Government Studies (ILGS).

Dr. Omari graduated from the University of Ghana with BSc. Biochemistry, MPhil. in Environmental Science, and PhD. in Environmental Science; and from the University of Education, Winneba with Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education. He also has a certificate in Researching Gender (Concepts and Methods) from the University of East Anglia (UEA), United Kingdom.

He is a member of the Ghana Science Association. He has a number of publications to his name. His career objective is to be part of a winning educational and research team in which my education in the sciences and my experiences in the environmental fields combine to improve and safeguard our natural environment.
